New 64-Bit Editions Released
Update 20090403 for
Version 7 Released
Cyberlogic has released new 64-bit editions
of its OPC server suite, driver suite and
bridging suite software, and has updated the
previously-released 32-bit editions. The new
version 7 + Update 20090403 release contains
both the 64-bit edition and the update for
the 32-bit edition, and is available for
download at www.cyberlogic.com. The software
can be installed as a free upgrade for all
current version 7 installations, and can
also be installed on other systems for a
14-day evaluation period. Because this
release includes several important
enhancements and bug fixes, Cyberlogic urges
all users of the affected products to
upgrade their installations at their
earliest convenience.
Designers of new systems—and those who want
to upgrade their existing systems to 64-bit
operation—will now have full support for all
Cyberlogic products and device drivers under
all 64-bit Windows operating systems. And
this support can be achieved almost
effortlessly: all of the Plug and Play
adapter cards are supported, all
configuration files are compatible with
32-bit editions, and the 32-bit and 64-bit
editions can be intermixed in a distributed
environment. In short, both 32-bit and
64-bit editions are fully compatible and
provide nearly identical functionality.
Software developers will likewise find the
new edition easy to adopt. Thousands of
existing applications, designed to work with
the 32-bit device drivers, can now run under
64-bit Windows without modification. This is
possible because all of Cyberlogic’s drivers
provide a dual interface: 32-bit and 64-bit.
Upgrading to 64-bit APIs is easy too. All
that is necessary is to recompile the
application with the 64-bit compiler and
relink with the 64-bit API libraries.
What products are affected?
This release includes 64-bit editions of all
version 7 Cyberlogic software suite
products, and also includes updates to the
32-bit editions of these products. The
affected products are:
- • OPC Crosslink Suite
• DHX OPC Premier Suite
• DHX OPC Server Suite
• DHX Driver Suite
• MBX OPC Premier Suite
• MBX OPC Server Suite
• MBX Bridge Suite
• MBX Driver Suite
What are the
main features of the new 64-bit release?
The 64-bit edition not only provides
exceptional performance, but was also
carefully designed for easy upgrades to
existing software and systems. In addition
to all of the enhancements and corrections
in the 32-bit edition update, which will be
described later, the 64-bit release
includes:
Hardware and
Operating System Support
• All 64-bit Windows operating systems are
supported: XP, Vista, Server 2003 and Server
2008.
• The MBX Driver supports all Modicon PnP
adapters: PCI-85, PCMCIA 416NHM21234 and
TSXCUSBMBP.
• The DHX Driver supports all Allen-Bradley
PnP adapters: 1784-PCMK, 1784-PCMK Series B,
1784-PKTX/A, 1784-PKTXD/A, 5136-SD-PCI and
SST-DHP-PCI.
Application Support
• All of the drivers support both
32-bit and 64-bit APIs. This includes not
only the kernel mode drivers, but also the
user mode drivers such as the Ethernet MBX
and Ethernet DHX Drivers.
• All MBXAPI and DHXAPI functions are
identical to the 32-bit editions.
• All 32-bit applications can run under
64-bit Windows without any modifications.
• To port to 64-bit, the 32-bit applications
need only be recompiled with the 64-bit
compiler and re-linked with the 64-bit API
libraries.
Upgrading and
Version Compatibility
• The 64-bit editions can be intermixed
with 32-bit editions in a distributed
environment. For example, a 32-bit MBX
Gateway client can talk to a 64-bit MBX
Gateway Server.
• All configuration files can be used on
either the 32-bit or 64-bit edition.
What is contained in the 32-bit
edition update?
You can find a detailed list of
changes in the release notes that are
included with the update. Some of the
highlights are shown below. (Not all of
these changes apply to all products.)
New Features
• The DHX OPC Server configuration
editor now supports Direct Import of Logix
processor tags into the address space.
Improved Stability
and Performance
• Removing a Plug and Play device while the
OPC server was running could potentially
freeze the server. This problem has been
corrected.
Corrections
• The OPC Client application could
write incorrect data when writing to arrays.
This is no longer the case.
• A problem with the Serial MBX Driver and
Serial DHX Driver detection has been
corrected.
• Mouse wheel scrolling on the MBX Bridge
routing records page now works consistently.
• Problems with imports of CSV and TAB files
into the MBX and DHX OPC Servers have been
corrected.
• The OPC Status application no longer
flickers when the screen is redrawn.
• Clicking the upper-right X button in the
OPC Status application now always minimizes
the application.
Documentation
• The explanation of the procedure to
install and configure OPC XML Data Access
support has been greatly enlarged and
clarified.
• The various OPC server configuration
quick-start guides have been combined and
expanded to provide clearer, more
comprehensive coverage of the available
features.
How will I know what to download and
install?
All Cyberlogic products are now
available in 32-bit and 64-bit editions. The
32-bit editions will install only on 32-bit
Windows systems, while the 64-bit editions
will install only on 64-bit Windows systems.
If you get the software on a disk, it will
contain both editions and the installation
software will choose the proper edition for
your operating system. To minimize download
time, the files posted on our website
contain only a single edition, so you must
download the 64-bit edition for installation
on a 64-bit Windows system, or the 32-bit
edition for installation on a 32-bit Windows
system.
The following typical scenarios will help you decide what you need and how to proceed.
Upgrading a 32-bit
edition under 64-bit Windows to the new
64-bit release
If you currently have a version 7 Cyberlogic
product installed on a 64-bit Windows
system, you can upgrade to the 64-bit
edition. To do so, simply install the 64-bit
software on top of the 32-bit edition.
During the installation, the 32-bit edition
will automatically be uninstalled. Your
license information (serial number and
password) and activation status will not
change, so you will not be required to
reactivate. All of your existing
configuration files will remain valid.
Upgrading from
32-bit Windows to 64-bit Windows
If you are currently running a version
7 Cyberlogic product under a 32-bit edition
of Windows, and plan to upgrade your
operating system to a 64-bit edition, you
can also upgrade to the 64-bit edition of
the Cyberlogic software. Be sure to back up
your configuration files and deactivate the
Cyberlogic product before updating the
operating system. You can then install the
64-bit Cyberlogic product and reactivate
using the same serial number and password.
Updating a 32-bit
installation
If you are currently running a version
7 Cyberlogic product under a 32-bit edition
of Windows, and want to stay with that
operating system, you cannot use the 64-bit
edition of the Cyberlogic software. The
installer will apply Update 20090403 to the
32-bit Cyberlogic software. Your activation
status will not be affected.
How will this affect the activation
of my installed software?
If you are not changing your Windows
operating system, then upgrading to the
64-bit edition or installing the 32-bit
edition update will have no effect at all on
the activation status of your software. The
upgrade/update itself is free of charge and
does not require activation. The activated
products on your system will still be
activated. If you have purchased a license
but have not yet activated, you may apply
the upgrade/update before activating, and
the serial number and password will remain
valid. Products that are running in the
two-week evaluation mode will continue to
operate normally for the remainder of the
evaluation period.
If you are planning to upgrade your Windows
operating system to a 64-bit edition to take
advantage of the 64-bit edition of the
Cyberlogic software, your activation will be
affected. Before upgrading the operating
system, you must deactivate the Cyberlogic
product. After upgrading the operating
system and reinstalling the product, you can
then reactivate using the same serial number
and password.
What if I have not applied the
previous updates to version 7, or if I have
version 6 or earlier software?
If you have version 7.x installed,
you need only apply the 20090403 update to
bring your system fully up to the current
release. The update is cumulative and
includes all of the corrections and
enhancements from all of the
previously-released updates.
If you have version 6 or earlier software installed, this update does not apply to your software and cannot be installed. For information on upgrading your software to version 7, please contact Cyberlogic Sales by email at sales@cyberlogic.com or by calling 248 631 2200.
I have version 7
installed, but I’m not sure if it has been
updated. What should I do?
Open the Windows Start
menu and go to Programs.
Select the Cyberlogic product you have
installed and then select Product
Information from its sub-menu. An
information window will open showing you the
installed release and update level. If it
does not show 20090403, you should apply
this update.
In any case, it is always safe to run the
update wizard. The wizard will determine
what, if any, products need to be updated
and will install those updates. If your
system is already up-to-date, it will tell
you that no updates are required.
I have a TSXCUSBMBP
Modbus Plus USB adapter installed in my
system. When I try to apply the update, I
get a message that says that there are no
MBX products to update. What should I do?
Early versions of the TSXCUSBMBP shipped
with a driver that is not compatible with
the MBX Driver. This message indicates that
you have this incompatible driver. Contact
Schneider Electric to see if you are
eligible for a free upgrade to the current
driver. In any case, you can purchase an MBX
Driver Suite license directly from
Cyberlogic.
I installed the
64-bit edition of the MBX Driver Suite, but
the Virtual MBX Driver is missing. How can I
run my old DOS and Win16 applications on
64-bit Windows?
The 64-bit versions of Windows no
longer support the running of DOS and 16-bit
Windows applications. However, it is
possible to run them under 32-bit Windows XP
inside a Virtual PC. For more information on
how to set this up, refer to the Cyberlogic
Knowledge Base article KB2009-02: Running
16-bit Applications under Vista and 64-Bit
Windows.
I have other
questions about this release.
